Just submitted some photos that's been sitting in my hard disks for quite some time and I have to admit that I'm certainly not as active in deviantArt as I was before.

What have been bothering me is that I'm getting lesser and lesser feedback and comments on the works I have posted in my gallery. It gets really disappointing to see the number of messages I have in my message centre and when I open it, I get lots of favourites but barely any comment.

Don't get me wrong. I neither gain instant gratifications nor have my egos boosted when I receive comments such as "Wow...that's a very beautiful shot." or "Yummy...I like your food photography." blah blah blah.

One of the main reasons I have joined deviantArt is to get feedback and suggestions to how I can work around my flaws and improve on my photography skills.

I understand that not everyone is capable of dishing out comments comparable to those of the professionals, me included. However whenever I comment, I try to talk about things like the composition, colours, photographic techniques used or even certain elements in the photos that caught my attention or evoked any of my emotions.

Look at this from another angle. While learning to give constructive comments, I became more able to appreciate photos (or any other forms of design media for the matter). I learnt to look for certain elements and components in other people’s works and apply the concepts/techniques to the stuff I do.

I want to thank all of you who have added my works to your favourites. I truly appreciate it. They still serve as some form of motivation for me to make an effort to post new works from time to time.

What I ask for is a comment from time to time. It will be good enough if let’s say you give me a comment for every 3 – 5 photos you faved.

`BoffinbraiN have written a very good article on this particular subject.

Please. Show that you care. I’m still have my faith in all you deviants!

Hey, you have some cool stuff, you have a great eye for photos and you capture the food really well, the only thing i can think to say is with some of the animal ones maybe trying to get a couple of photos a bit further out to see the scene the animal is in, like with the white tiger in the water, i have always thought thats something i could try as well when shooting animals :) maybe if you had the time would you mind having a look at some of my stuff and see what you think? :) cheers :D

Hi Ross,
Thank you for your comment. I do agree that it is a good idea to move a bit further to show the scene that the animal is in. I have actually employed this in some of my older shots.

However, this time round I'm trying something a little different. I want to let viewers have a closer look at the animals, really really up close. I gathered this can probably be achieved with a tighter composition :)

By the way, you've got some cool stuff in your gallery as well! Your animals shots are rather nicely composed and your landscape shots are truly amazing. My personal favourite is "Niagara Falls 2". Lucky you to be at the right place at the right time :D

Instead of counting candles,
Or tallying the years,
Contemplate your blessings,
As your birthday nears.

Consider special people
Who love you, and who care,
And others who’ve enriched your life
Just by being there.

Think about the memories
Passing years can never mar,
Experiences great and small
That have made you who you are.

Another year is a happy gift,
So cut your cake, and say,
"Instead of counting birthdays,
I count blessings every day!"

Love that lives in the heart cannot be so easily terminated by time. Even though the encounter is brief its impression shall last a lifetime. No one can change the direction of love that lives in the heart. If you have loved that in itself is the answer.

They say I should not write this way
writing till the break of day
but I care not what they say
for they are why I am this way
